The Generators on the Watauga River and the South Holston River have been off on the weekends, and few days through the week. We have been able to get started trout fishing again.

The trout fishing on the small creeks has been fair. We have been fishing with larger nymphs and a good bit of weight, as the fish are deep in most cases.

There have already been some BWOs hatching on The South Holston and the Watauga rivers, and the trout have been coming to the surface to feed when they are hatching. We have also been fishing
nymphs on both tail waters when there are no BWOs hatching.

The fishing is fair to good right now when the water is off. We have not been trout fishing much whenTVA is generating.

The areas that were closed for spawning on the South Holston River are now open to trout fishing again. If you had a one year TN trout fishing license, it runs out at the end of this month. You can get to TWRA's site to buy a new one via the link to my fly fishing resoources page, below. I have heard the license will be going up in price soon, but are now on sale for the same price as last year. So buy yours soon to save a little money.

We are booking Fly fishing trips for spring and the calendar is starting to fill up. Call or email East Tennessee Fly Fishing to make sure you can get the dates you want.

The caddis should be here on the Watauga by the end of March or early April. The trout fishing should start to really take off in thecoming weeks. Now is the time to start planning your Tennessee trout fishing trip to the Watagau or South Holston rivers.
