Fall
is here in the Mountains of East Tennessee. The leaves are changing fast
and we have had our first frost, here in Elizabethton. The TVA has started
the draw down of the local lakes, and with the rain we have had this summer
the generators have been running a lot. The South Holston fishing has
been fair floating on high water. Fly fishing has been great wading when
the generators are off. There are blue winged olives, midges, caddis,
and still a few sulfurs hatching on the South Holston River.
When the Watauga is not generating the float trip is
the way to go. It has been good with hatches of blue winged olives, crane
flies midges, and caddis. On the days the water is running we have been
fly fishing the small streams in both Tennessee and North Carolina. We
have even been fly fishing some of the delayed harvest streams in NC.
The lakes will be at there winter levels soon and the
generators will be off more often. The trophy sized brown trout will be
moving up the rivers in the next few weeks and getting ready to spawn.
The chance to catch a big TN trout on the fly will be good from now into
the winter.
Fall is my favorite time of year to be on the rivers,
and the trout fishing should only get better in the next few weeks. Give
us a call and book a trout fishing trip that is second to none.
Also, remember that East Tennessee Fly Fishing is offering
Watauga river and South Holston shuttle services for those who wish to
try TN trout fishing on their own. So, if you are planning on floating
one of these rivers yourself, East tennessee Fly Fishing can move your
truck and trailer to the take-out.
