Hello every one, time for a East Tennessee Fly Fishing report. The Watauga River in Elizabethton, TN has been awesome, with great dry fly fishing. The Cicada's were very thick in the Watauga's trophy section. We have also had some caddis and yellow mayflies on the upper and lower sections of the Watauga River. The Watauga has fished as well or better for 14 inch plus trout, than it in several years. The South Holston River is also fishing great with lots of sulfurs during both high and low water. We have caught some very nice trout, floating during high water, fishing sulfur patterns to rising fish. With a wet spring and early summer the small streams are doing great and water levels are still ideal. Most of the creeks are full of bugs in the afternoons. You can find large black and yellow stoneflies. Yellow mayflies from a size 12 to 18's are present, with small yellow stoneflies and a few tan and cream caddis mixed in. With all of the water we have had during the last two years, the trout, the bugs, and the fly fishers have been happy. We still have days open in June and July so call and book a fly fishing trip to fish some of the best trout water in the country. Remember to contact us if you need shuttle services for the Watauga or South Holston Rivers. |
