The water levels have dropped, the rivers and creeks are as low and clear as they have been all summer. The Watauga River is fishing well with mixed hatches of sulphers, caddis, midges, and crain flies. There are some heavy hatches of BWO's on the Watauga River if you are in the right place at the right time. We are also having good catches on small nymphs and terrestrials. The South Holston still has hatches of sulphers, midges and a few caddis and blue winged olives. It has been fishing best when wading during low-water. The small streams are fishing well. The trout can be caught, but due to the low, clear water they are a bit harder to make a presentation to. Seek the higher elevations on small streams to find the best fishing. We have days open and the trout fishing will be great as the weather cools, and we get some better hatches. Contact East Tennessee Fly Fishing, and we will get your tennessee fly fishing trip booked. Also, remember that East Tennessee Fly Fishing is offering shuttle services for the Watauga and South Holston rivers. So, if you are planning on floating one of these rivers yourself, East tennessee Fly Fishing can move your truck and trailer to the take-out.
